Australia Part One: Sydney

A few months ago my boyfriend and I booked flights to Australia, without really thinking…but god am I so grateful that we did! I had the best time ever, and it was a much needed holiday! To be fair I’m ready for the next one already…

We flew in Sydney and drove to Bathurst, on to Albury and then to Melbourne where we stayed for six nights with Ash’s aunty. I think I will make this a few part blog posts otherwise it will be waaaay to long!

To be completely honest I’ve never had a desire to go to Sydney, although I am the world’s biggest Cronulla Sharks fan (probably obsession level) I didn’t really know what the city could offer. But boy oh boy I ABSOLUTELY F**KING LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.

I reckon I could live there quite easily, I don’t know if it was just the warmth, or accessibility of everything but I really just loved the vibes the city gave off. We stayed at a tiny little hotel in Surrey Hills called Veriu Central, it was about a 5minute walk from Central Station, which was extremely useful. I was a wee bit shocked with how small our room was at first, there was hardly room for us to stand next to each other, but it had everything we needed and became our little home away from home.

On the first day we had arrived in Sydney at 8am so we couldn’t get the keys for our room till 2pm, so we took the light rail up to Darling Harbour and wandered round the Maritime Museum where we went on a Navy Ship and a legit submarine. It was bloody scary being in the submarine, it was really cramped and dark I can’t imagine actually being on one of them deep underwater, especially during wartime. It was incredible…although I have this (probably) irrational fear of being in a space that something’s going to go wrong and I can’t get out. I did’t panic or anything, but a few thoughts like “What if the submarine starts moving” happened haha!! I think we literally went back to the motel, passed out and then ate Nandos, so relatively successful day!

Day Two, was probably the one of the only reasons I came to Sydney. I got to live out a 20 year (if not longer) dream of mine. I GOT TO GO TO A FRICKIN CRONULLA SHARKS GAME. So on Sunday the 1st of September, Ash and I took the train to Cronulla and it was a beautiful day, probably got to 25degrees ish? We went to Cronulla Beach CBD and there was a spring market on which was a fluke that we went on that day! We then wandered a block down the road and was at the beach! Believe me when I tell you, (and no i’m not biased) it was amazing! The beach was beautiful and I could’ve lived there, easily! Finally at home in the shire haha #UpUpCronulla!

The game itself, was almost surreal. It feels like another life that I was there. It was also Paul Gallen’s last game ever at Shark Park, after a 19year career, so that was pretty special to get to see him play. I probably sound a bit crazy but I have loved the Sharks since I was about 3 or 4…so its understandable…In my opinion it was like going to heaven then you die! Even if we lost by one point, I still got to see my team in real life! Best Day Ever!!!!
